Hi all! It’s Friday. Hence, here is your weekly dose of hmx-weekly, a list of what I’m enjoying, pondering, or working on. Enjoy.
WEIRD OR JUST DIFFERENT?
“There’s a flip side to everything,” the saying goes, and in 2 minutes, Derek Sivers shows this is true in a few ways you might not expect. Great talk on how the opposite perspective may also be true.
THREE STEPS TO MAKE A CHANGE
“What makes the difference in the quality of people’s lifes?”
The 3 steps to a breakthrough. “Tony delves into the three key components to creating a breakthrough: strategy, story and state. The way you approach a goal, your beliefs about your life, and your mental game form the foundation for any success or failure. But by learning how to take control of these forces, you can take massive action and can create the quality of life that you’ve always wanted.” I love that framework, and it reflects what Derek Sivers used to say: “If it would be about the knowledge (strategies), we’d all be millionaires with perfect abs.”
Should You Apply For Your Dream Job If You’re Not Qualified? Since I’m about to make a job transition in the next 12 months, I’m constantly wondering how to deal with qualifications I don’t meet. Not sure if this is true for germany, but I like the idea of the 51% rule:
“If you’ve got 51% of what they’re looking for, you should proudly send your resume in.”
HALF OF YOUR COWORKERS MIGHT BE GONE NEXT YEAR
Why Nearly Half Of Workers Globally Could Leave Their Jobs In 2017. I think the numbers given in this article are quiet shocking, though insitutions like Gallup (Gallup germany) show them for years with their engagement index. The article closes with advice on how to retain people.
“We often aks, ‘What’s wrong?’ Doing so, we invite painful seeds of sorrow to come up and manifest. […] We would be much happier if we tried to stay in touch with the healthy, joyful seeds inside of us and around us. We should learn to ask, ‘What’s not wrong?’ and be in touch with that.”
– Peace is every step, Thich Nhat Hanh
It’s been a week with lots of demands, and it’s a challenge to keep my focus, and moral high. This definitely helped. Makes me smile instantly.
That’s all I want to leave you with for today. If you liked this please forward this email to a friend or two, and suggest they sign up.
Have a great week!
