Hi all! It’s Friday. Hence, here is your weekly dose of hmx-weekly, a list of what I’m enjoying, pondering, or working on. This week has been quiet stressful. By coincidence contents of this issue are sort of fitting. Enjoy.
THE INSTINCT TO HEAL: CURING DEPRESSION, ANXIETY AND STRESS WITHOUT DRUGS AND WITHOUT TALK THERAPY
This is a book I stumbled upon this week, and I’m already halfway through. It is mind-boggling how quickly symptoms like stress and anxiety – we all seem to have it – can disappear. It probably isn’t for everybody, but if you have a background in medicine, psychology, or simply interest in mental and physical health this is the deal: The Instinct to Heal: Curing Depressoin, Anxiety and Stress Without Drugs and Without Talk Therapy.
NAVY SEAL DR. KIRK PARSLEY ON SLEEP VS. PERFORMANCE, HEART RATE VARIABILITY, & SUPPLEMENTATION
“You just do not learn, without sleeping.”
I’ve enjoyed this episode of the becoming superhuman podcast for several reasons. One is there’s specific take-aways on the following question: What are the major problems that interfere with sleep, and what can we do about it? These are:
- Light saturation (Install f.lux, activate Night Shift on your iPhone)
- Worry or Stress
Dr. Kirk Parsley elaborates on how to get these under control. I like the “to-worry-about-list”, which is part of journaling excercise to cope with worry.
TIM BROWN: TALES OF CREATIVITY AND PLAY
“At the 2008 Serious Play conference, designer Tim Brown talks about the powerful relationship between creative thinking and play — with many examples you can try at home (and one that maybe you shouldn’t).”
FEAR IS A SELF-FULFILLING PROPHECY
This quote, once again, is taken from the book Daily Stoic:
“Many are harmed by fear itself, and many may have come to their fate while dreading fate.”
TONY ROBBINS ON HOW TO RESOLVE INTERNAL CONFLICT
Last thing I’d like to share is a “quick coherence technique”. Coherence refers to a state, that syncs “heart and mind”, i.e. rational and emotional parts of your brain work together. This exercise is cheesy, but highly effective. Works for me.
Thanks for reading. Three things I could use your help with:
