Hi all! Here is hmx-weekly, a list of what I’m enjoying, pondering, or working on. I hope you’ll find something to chew on over the weekend. Enjoy.
Train yourself to be embarrsed about only what’s worth being embarrassed about. On Systematic Desesitization, it’s stoic version, cultivating present state awareness, and more.
Favorite line: “The worst advice, is advice.”
“…the current findings […] imply that narcissists’ low empathy is automatic (instead of consciously suppressed or under-reported), and also that perspective-taking induces genuine change in the way that narcissists process a distressed person’s experience.” (Hepper et al., 2014).
Two guided meditations by Sam Harris. After a while using headspace I threw these in the mix: “There is nothing spooky or irrational about mindfulness, and the literature on its psychological benefits is now substantial.”
This is an idea worth spreading on the importance of relationships for your health. This is also where simple must not always be easy. Great talk viewed nearly seven million times at this point.
I like to experiment with different coffee ideas. These are insane. Combining coffee with eggs? Let’s do it. [note: not worth it. I’d rather have tried the macadamia version]
“Psychedelics can assist in enlightening people about the processes behind their subjectivity. Ego dissolution offers vivid experiential proof not only that can things be different, but that there is an opportunity to seek change.”
This is a short video on how little experiments can bring wins in every domain of your life, and therefore bring greater balance. The video leads you through the process.
“Traditional thinking pits work and the rest of our lives against each other. But taking smart steps to integrate work, home, community, and self will make you a more productive leader and a more fulfilled person.”
On the importance of psychological safety and how to create it.
Short video on hbr.org reporting about the most important leadership traits. Charisma, and confidence are not amongst them.
